Research Exchanges

Research Exchanges are currently organized by Dr Mary Anne Francis and Dr Tim O’Riley

Research exchanges are termly events where research active artists, theorists, designers and students at Chelsea College of Art and Design present their research to peers. Its an informal and supportive event - with wine!

Here is the invitation for the new format Research Exchanges 07 - 08. Invitation open to all Chelsea academic, technical staff and research students.

Unless noted otherwise, all events take place in room AG07 - at Chelsea College of Art and Design, Millbank London. All are welcome...

Current Exchanges

This year our programme kicks off with a talk by visiting Research Fellow at UAL, Noam Austerliz, and then continues with events ‘hosted’ by Chelsea staff, who are taking over from Tim and Mary Anne as ‘chairs’ for one evening in order to offer themed presentations.

The Lecture Theatre
Guest Speaker McKenzie Wark of the Eugene Lang College and New School for Social Research, New York.

Author of the acclaimed A Hacker Manifesto (Harvard University Press, 2005) will present ongoing work for his forthcoming book on Gamer Theory.

Gamer Theory is a novel set of proposals for a critical theory of games, an exploration of games as allegories for the world, and also a new way of thinking the relationship between authorship and text.

Professor Stephen Farthing and Ken Wilder

Dr Farthing's presentation is titled: Using an integrationalist approach to work towards a definition of drawing

Ken will be speaking about the forthcoming Spaces and Narrations exhibition and conference Angles of Projection. This deals with 'situated' video and film practices - practices which make a relationship between screen space, and the space in which the works are exhibited. Ken will be discussing ways of developing this project on a long-term basis.

Professor Stephen Scrivener, the new Head of Research at Chelsea introduced his work, and vision for research at Chelsea.
