From Critical Practice Chelsea

Jem: Can we solve this problem by saying that I don’t mind what other people are doing. But I’m interested in the describing the market of ideas using ANT. We could swap between different accounts.

Weaving, braiding and the journey.

Cinzia: I know I said that from the beginning…but Latour acknowledges that you’re always far away from the account…Even though I think ontop we’ve added a lot of things…and our process has mushroomed. And from the start, we’ve coming from different perspectives. Let’s try and assemble our different views…

Corrado: What are the principles of editing that you’re trying to get at? I really need to know…In the presentation, we should be able to identify different principles…What are the common denominators? We need to say we’re using ANT.

Marsha: Why that way for that project?

Cin: I am very clear that I’m an actor as well as an ANT observer…my first call for observing is not to narrow down…so, as an actor…I’ve left myself free…This is going to the core of my contribution to the panel: As an artist research, looking at my own practice, I’m mainly observing myself….I’m the object and the subject. I have not imposed on myself with a set of guidelines about what I want to do…When I’ve done it, I step back and observe it I have not used ANT to edit, I’ve used my being part of the assemblage. Think about the conversation in the pub? You can’t reflect and observe at the same time…you frieze…Movement from close up and far away. That’s why last time, I really needed to understand if we were going to edit one another’s footage.

Jem: The forum has changed a little bit. Perhaps I could push for it to go back in the original place…or perhaps…we should go with the sound on the computers?

Cin: I’m into working with the conditions…

Jem: It’s one of six computers…

Cin: That would give us a number of advantages…we would be able to work a lot more subtly.

Cor: Returning to the question of editing…I will approach through various principles. Occum’s razor. Simplify!

Cin: But this text is really useful. You can’t enrol me. You can’t have a dome that assembled…But…if we do it in that way…I would like to avoid having it on swarmTV.

Cor: This is actually an essence rather than something bigger…but it goes back to technicity…But the shit bag in me…says it’s not very honest…Punctualization…we’ve never discussed what we’ve done…I really enjoy it…I think that actually what we’ve done is our own subjectivities…our own technicities and done good times…

Jem: We’ve come together loads of time and we’ve approached it with a view to how ANT takes our eye…

You create the rules and then you go over the top with them…

Cor: I will edit something and it will be very much me…I don’t think we had an initial brief.

Cin: I felt frustrated at the beginning…once I was willing to say “It’s this kind of collaboration” We are going to find a way to sing in a chorus. Can be pyshcoanalytic most of the time and as a reaction you need to define. An aesthetic of a matters of concern…and we develop and aesthetic that shows respect for the variety of the matters of concern.

Cor: It’s about rough concensus…

Cin: But no one gets excluded

Cor: A strategy for the next couple of weeks…but we need to make a textual document about what we’ve done. What about mapping our decision making process…I think it could be short…issues of affordance…

Cin: Which is very much considered in ANT.

Cor: I need your accounts.

CIn: You’ll get my account. But I don’t need your account.

Jem: Can I add something: I think we might work to produce multiple accounts and exercise peer review…

Mar: So we’re not going to take individual credit for different streams.

Cin: But I think that this way of working as emerged quite organically…At the moment I feel quite comfortable…I would like to develop a text…Post-discussion Can we have a visual presentation during the project?

Jem: Yes, I’m sure we can.

Thoughts on the Forum:

This is what I’ve got in my head: I’ll first put out there what’s in the abstract and then each person will say that their take on the project is and give an example with the DVD “their take” but that person needs to make it clear what their angle. In terms of time keeping, it’s really dumb if the chair has to say 5:00 mins…How do you want to be told?

Cin: I want the wink before I have to make the conclusion. Perhaps a touch?
