Public What?

Intro: Parade originated as a project about "public space". The focus then shifted to the "public domain", an expression that, in some ways is more encompassing than "public space" because it includes the virtual and other forms of non-Euclidean space. But there's some concern that "public domain" may also connote a category of IP and hence overdetermine perceptions of the project. As a result, we're now entertaining two other descriptors: "public realm" and/or "publicness". Yes, "publicness" is indeed a bona fide word which, according to the OED, dates all the way back to 1615.
